I've got some plans for it, but nothing set in stone. The 455 will be rebuilt at some point and won't be left stock... I'm considering a 524 stroker kit, reproduction stage 1 or stage 2 aluminum cylinder heads, an aluminum manifold, headers, a completely new exhaust system and I may very well put megasquirt on it. I'm also considering a centrifugal supercharger on top of all of the above.
PST appears to have urethane bushings for it, and I intend to put them on along with larger sway bars, also from PST, and new springs and shocks. New ball joints, obviously, and a new steering coupler. I'm also looking at putting a power steering gearbox and pump from either my 560SEL parts car in it, or one from a 2nd generation F-Body. I'm also going to look into getting a disc brake conversion for the 12 bolt that's in it... I can't seem to find one yet that's specifically for the Riv, but the 12 bolt was a common diff so I should be able to adapt something from another application that used it to the Buick with little if any trouble.
The instrument panel is going to be replaced with a custom unit, and even though I hate digital gauges with a passion, I'm actually thinking about putting them in this car... they seem to "suit" it.
The car will probably get a center console, either a custom one or an original one if I can find it, and bucket seats in the front, and I'm definately planning on upgrading the stereo.
I'll probably have it resprayed in the blue it's in now this summer just to protect it before it starts raining again, then when I get around to it I'll have it painted properly. It'll be 2-toned, either blue on the bottom & silver on the top, dark blue on the bottom with a lighter blue on top, or silver on the bottom and black on top. The dividing line will be where the molding on the side of the car is now, and the molding will probably be removed. I'll also probably shave the door handles.
Beyond that, I don't know yet. As for the 500E... That car I'd be inclined to leave fairly close to stock.
shane, Yoseyman, Boo, and acwhite:
Thanks for the comments/wishes of luck
And no, acwhite, it shouldn't be difficult at all. One of the reasons I bought this particular car is because for an American car of this age, it's in fairly decent shape. And it attracts attention now... probably partially because it's got at least 140k on it and it looks like it's covered every one :P But seriously, people notice it. Excluding super exotics like Lamborghinis and Ferraris, the only car I've seen attract more attention is my Grandfather's 40th anniversary edition SL500.
You're entitled to your opinion of early 70s American cars. I don't share it with you in all cases. I'll explain my position once for you, though I doubt you care. Somebody else reading the thread may, though.
I like big cars with big engines. I don't care for small sports cars; I like GTs. The practicality of the Buick is of essentially no concern to me. My daily driver is a 560SEL that gets 12mpg. I can afford the 5 or 6mpg the Buick gets with no problems at all. When it starts costing me $250 to put 20 gallons of gas in it, I'll start worrying about it. But at $70 to $75 (which is what it cost me last weekend) or even $140 or $150, I don't care.
I also don't care whether I get my investment out of it or not... If I did, I would've taken the '67 Camaro my dad offered me for free. To be completely honest, money is of no concern to me. I make enough that I don't have to worry about it, and the fact that I'm going to lose probably $25k on this car doesn't bother me in the least. I can afford that too.
So. basically, what I've got is exactly what I want, and the drawbacks of having a car of this nature don't really effect me, because, frankly, I've got the money to burn. I mean hell, I've spent almost $35k on having the 560 restored and modified one piece at a time even though I likely couldn't even get $10k for it if I sold it. Do I care? Not in the least. It's just money.
And, for the record, I will never own a Ford of any kind. And outside of my brother's godforsaken Model A that I'm probably going to be coerced into working on, I will never work on one either. :P
