I am not sure how this is on the Gas prices outside the US but here the the best part of CHawks post regarding 'Fiscal Conservative - Social Liberial' and why it is muddled thinking. Lee Duigon, the writer must bunk with Fred Phelps at Camp Wacko. From Mr. Duigon:
Consider just one--and maybe not even the worst one--of the botched societal experiments introduced in our time: no-fault divorce. The immediate result of making divorce a lot easier to get was, of course, a lot more divorce. The result of a lot more divorce was a lot less respect for the whole idea of marriage. That led to a huge increase in the number of babies born out of wedlock and raised without fathers--not to mention babies born in wedlock and then subjected to a string of father substitutes (sometimes worse than no father at all).
The lack of a father is the single biggest demographic predictor for a child's growing up to be involved with drugs, delinquency, crime, casual sex (more illegitimate babies!), mental illness--in short, every social pathology you can imagine. Those who get mired down in such things tend to be less than optimally productive, economically. At the same time, they require all kinds of government intervention in their lives: special education, counseling, welfare, and often the attentions of the police and the courts.
I blame it on Tammy Wynette. According to Duigon this bi**h is the actual ROOT OF ALL EVIL. How could my thinking have been so muddled. I can see clearly now [sorry, that's Johnny Nash]. Never mind that he provides not a single study [make that accredited study] to back his claims. I guess we are just suppose to have faith that he would not make this stuff up.
Let me clean up his article title a bit: Conservative Muddled That should do it.
Being smart is knowing the difference, in a sticky situation between a well delivered anecdote and a well delivered antidote - bear.
