This warrantless "terrorist survelliance" program becomes even more sinister:

One more Bush lie. Thought he was only interested in hearing what we were saying to al-Qeada. I've also heard the Senate is unable to investigate the tapping as the proper clearances will not be granted. I guess we can kiss the 4th amendment goodbye for good now.

I hope I'm wrong about this, can some wingnut please assuage my fears?

I thought that was old news. I've heard that a supercomputer in Virginia, nicknamed "The Beast" supposedly red flags conversations when certain phrases are uttered.

Also, I heard that Australia was stopped from instituting a national phone system that The Beast couldn't tap. They eventually put in one that we could.

I don't know, maybe I've been reading too many "fringe" publications...

It's old news in a bright new package, coincidentally rediscovered when whatsisname got nominated to take CIA.

They record phone numbers, not phone calls, so aunt May's apple recipe is still safe.

Thank goodness they can't do pattern recognition and analysis based only on the phone numbers because that could actually become an infringement in its own right if they could just figure out how to write a data query to do that. Because without some sort of query it would just be collecting phone numbers and it would be useless to collect at all for anyone, good guys or bad guys.

And it it did not have any potential 'datamining' future, they would flush all the numbers deemed 'friendly' to both tighten the database and to insure the security and privacy of those of us who are not really being looked at.

Yes I retired as a Senior Systems Architect with both corporate, government and military experience so I know when to put on the aluminum foil hat and when to insure that others need it.
