The largest NSA computer within the Echelon network, running Carnivore is supposed to be located in Western Europe. It is interesting, that the NSA holds the patent for 'geolocating internet users'. The case of the encryption specialist Crypto A.G. in Zug, Switzerland makes fascinating reading. Siemens A.G. Germany would alter all their machines, with the BND (German secret service) and NSA able to access all communication of Crypto's contract Nations in clear text. Iran was one of them, which deserves applause. Having been able to read all of Iran's communication was a huge achievement. There exists a secret treaty of 1956, negotiated by none other then Field Marshal Montgomery, then second in command of NATO, and 'neutral' Switzerland, in which the latter declares to become part of Nato in case of future war. I think the broad brush of the logic you cite is worth bringing into court to hear an opinion on again, this time as it applies to how the government is using the data. If they are in fact using it in a manner that should be available to anyone else in the public, like the phone books make numbers available, then that is probably fine. But the logic that "used for billing purposes" means it is public domain regardless of what the data actually is, is far fetched.

The government needs to come clean. It is not public domain information who I called. The phone records kept for billing purposes are like receipts for anything we buy. The government doesn't have a right to that data just because it involved money - they have a right to their taxes but not a record of who bought what, when. Until a crime has been committed and appropriate warrants are issued, or there is probable cause.

What is the government doing with the data? If they don't tell us, they should not have the access they seek. Who cares if they tell us and A-Q decides to use some other communication means besides our telephone services because it might make them vulnerable? I sure don't - I would like to have them go try something harder to hide inside than our phone system. Flush them out, make them concerned, and just be ready to find them when the move.

I just can't understand why you right wingers feel more secure with George Bush's dick in your ass. When America stops being America, however it happens, the terrorists have won. Chipping big chunks of the distinguishing features of our government's constrains, balances and our way of life is not making America secure. It is the response of a simpleton to a challenge that exceeds his capabilities. He is fucking the job up, and we need to stop appologizing for him. He is a fucking disgrace. Jim
If you disagree with the Supreme Court's interpretation then I suggest you go forth and change the law.

Well, here's a clue - reporters, opposition politicians, anyone who is a danger to these fascists, are being monitored as to who they are calling. Now, absent a court, how is it that my assertion has any more, or less, validity than what ever it is you think he's doing with it? You have some kind of halo over this guy for God knows what reason at this point, so you give him the benefit of the doubt. The rest of us has seen this guy lie us into a war, expose CIA agents as political payback, install crooks and cronies into high office, on and on, and we are supposed to believe that he's just playing nice here. The fuck can't catch a 6 foot 5 freak who lives in a cave, for chrissakes with an army, and now he's trying to tell us that's what he's really doing by snooping on us.

You guys do nothing but wear rose colored glasses when ever Mr. Bush walks by. The whole bunch of you have become enemies of freedom. Every day brings another example of malfeasance, abuse of power, corruption, torture, lies, and you guys support it. How do you live with this shit, man? How do you live with yourself? Read the Constitution, for chrissakes. We have three branches of government, who are supposed to be check and balance against each other to protect OUR RIGHTS. Millions of men have died over two centuries to give you that - and instead you defend the right of George Bush to shit all over those sacred principles of this democracy. What the hell is wrong with you people? You really want a system of government where one man can decide what is legal and what isn't? What laws he can choose not to obey or obey? If your looking for mental illness, go look in a mirror.
Take it up with the Supreme Court which ruled that phone records are not privileged. Notice how I responded without making potty-mouth. It's easy, really.

Look, you fucking moron, READ THE ARTICLE. They ruled they were not privelged , exactly as you say, and the Congress responded by passing the FISA Act to plug that loophole, and made it illegal by statute.

Let me know when that happens as a matter of course, rather than just a single isolated incident that wouldn't have occurred at all without U.S. assistance. Wasn't this country built on a principle that our freedoms and way of life are more important than our lives? When did rolling over become fashionable?

Oh looky, he made potty-mouth again. It makes him so strong and virile.

It seems that lawyers disagree on that very issue. You, a well known constitutional scholar, have your opinion, too.

PS See, no potty-mouth. It's easy if you try.

I think it is quite amusing how you right wingers get distracted by KV's or anyone's "potty mouth" stuff, it is so in tune with how getting a blowjob becomes the most important event in national politics. Apparently lying about killing people and spewing billions of dollars a week is ok, but god forbid you get a blowjob.

On the topic, Bot, do you have a link to this Supreme Court decision? I am curious and would actually like to read what they had to say. I find it hard to believe the view put forth is really what was intended. Jim

Good point about finding potty-mouth distracting. You would think that making a cogent argument would be more important than making potty-mouth, given that the potty-mouth thing distracts from whatever it is he's trying to say.
