I wanted to post some pics of the plants growing here for Botnst to examine that are growing here in the high elevations on Kililauea Volcano. I would estimate at the most there are only about twelve species of plants growing in these areas that look like the surface of the moon. They eventually form dense rainforests over the lava flows, which is absolutely amazing in itself. The flows are dated, so I computed that it took about thirty years for the plants to initially sprout, then about twenty to thirty years after that to form dense rainforest. I would bet that many of these plants grow nowhere else on earth but here. They are for the most part, equisite in the extreme:
Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.
