China and India are emergining economies with populations rivalling the United States. Look at the price of steel, copper, concrete and oil. All have increased expontially in recent months. Don't blame the SUV driver in the US. Blame the liberals for not allowing new refineries, production and exploration. Blame the libs for creating emission standards blocking the introduction of diesel technology into the markets. Blame the libs for forcing the auto manufacturers to sacrifice mileage for emissions. I'll give you several examples. My family was in the used car business for 15 years and we drove many of these vehicles daily. I drove a 1998 olds LSS for a year and got 34mpg highway. My 2004 pontiac company car with the same engine but cleaner emmissions would only get 24mpg. My 1981 Dodge pickup with a 318 v8 and manual overdrive(carburetor)got 24mpg highway. I drove an 05 dodge with an emission friendly 4.7 for a month and got 17mpg highway. My 1990 LX 302 mustang with a five spped averaged 34 mpg higheay. The 4.6 model won't do that. You greens can't have it both ways. You fight diesel technology due to the nox emissions yet diesel vehicles can double fuel economy. A diesel malibu maxx(Opel Vectra) is advertised at 49mpg highway in the UK. My god-we can't sell it in the US! It might pollute! Let's sell the POS hybrids like the Prius. That way when the big accident comes we can send hazmat to dig up six feet of earth around the scene of the ruptured battery compartment and incinerate the contamination at the taxpayers expense!
I would answer this with a lucid response but jez, who taught you to write? Let's do this in bullets for ease of reading.
First, if you read TODAYs paper you will see that refineries are at about 88%. Also, we are building several new or remodeled refineries. We do, however have a supply and demand factor where the more gasoline we use (SUVs) the more we need.
China and India have populations that rival the US????? US population is 300MILLION. India is 1BILLION, China is 2Billion (i think)
Diesel Technology. Well, the US has been preparing for the 07 change to new particulate standards since 1999 to keep up with the rest of the world. As of next year, we will be able to import the much cleaner Mercedes and other diesels. No one has been blocking that technology.
I won't even go into your thoughts on ecology vs mileage, they are not based on anything but SWAG antidotial experience and do not take into consideration the technology that has occured and continuing to happen.
