I dunno.....how's it feel for you to type "dick" and "asshole" in the same sentence? They are SO close to each other...I'll bet you wanted to leave out all those other words in between, didn't you Dannie? C'mon, you can admit it!

Yeah California that's a good idea, tar up those beaches again, it'll give the il-liberals something to whinge about while they sip their Chardonnays, and the 'ACTORS' will have something to act in. They'll be happy, ...more air time, "Look at me" etc, etc.

It's a perfect world !

That tar was burbbling up in the Gulf of Mexico before oil exploration. I think it was Hernando De Soto (really) who wrote about it first. The same phenomenon has been seen in lots of oil rich areas. Folks who don't know about natural seepage look for an oil company to blame for every tar ball bobbling in the surf or stuck to their heels in the sand.

More often than not, such residue IS due to some industrial leakage somewhere in the production chain. Oil companies have improved their control technology and clean-up response tremendously since when I worked in the industry 30 years ago. They still have a lot of room for improvement. But the chances of seeing the disasters of 30 years ago and before are very, very slim.

At some point the consumer is going to decide that the risk to the environment and the price of fuel are have reached a cross-over point.

Botnst,
I was referring to Santa Barbara in 1969. But you are correct about natural seepage however, no oil, no problem, we can build nuclear power plants, lots of 'em !
There's a nice spot in Beverly Hills close to Barbara Streisand and George Looney's multi million dollar mansions, they suck up an excess amount of power. These bad actors are so deluded they won't know the difference. Disguise 'em as ...say a big brown hat for example ..yeah that's it, a Brown Derby, a bit of revived Hollywood tradition. Build more in Berkeley and Santa Cruz give the people a 'cause', something to moan about with their Hors d'oeuvres and white wh'ine. Build one ..or maybe two or three next to George Bush's house, downwind. Now there's some retribution that will keep EVERYBODY happy.

I'm okay with nukes. hell, if Saddam can hide them from the CIA I guess the DoE could hide them from Striesand.

Nukes will be more useful when you can stuff them under the hood of my W124 instead of the ICE. Until then, I'm all for drilling in the continental shelf and in that vacationland in northern Alaska that we all enjoy visiting so much.
