Read the book long ago, and will definitely catch the flick. Very compelling mix of fact, fiction, and theory...

I agree with you GS. Very easy book to get wrapped up in as it is a good murder mystery with a lot of interesting "circumstances." Seems the "circumstances" around this story, a feature every story teller invents to create the story, have generated more interest than the basic murder mystery story line by several orders of magnitude. I will definitely see the flick. Jim

Read the book. Great plot, poor character development, ie never really cared whether the protagonist solved the mystery and succumbed to some damned dreadful disease, got put on a rack by Torquemodo, or interviewed by Jane Pauley. Just solve the mystery and be done with it. But the mystery was great and the perils were interesting. But I just never got more than a cardboard feeling about the characters. Even the bad guys were 2-dimensional.

I do understand why the Catholic Church would be pissed-off. I know a couple of people in Opus Dei and this is a total travesty of what they're about. It's cheap and easy to take a shot at some Christian this or that. An author with real balls would have taken on Muslims.

I smell a sequel

If it jams, force it. If it breaks, it needed replacing anyway.

It's more believable fiction than the bible.

Not Opus Dei, really They got nailed by a crooked leader - no more than Worldcom or Enron -

The issue the church has was the Nicean covenants.

If you are interested - look up at the past, and .... the present ..... of the Knights Templar

Read the book, also read his "Angels and Demons". Been to Paris, Rome, lived in London so enjoyed both books.

As for the movie, I'll wait until someone convinces me that Tom Hanks was the right cast to play Langdon (and what's up with his Garth Brooks went Alternative Rock hair?).
