my sister is a cheap ass and has always been a cheap ass. she put nothing but 87 octane in her 97 intrepid and the check engine light never turned off.
she has always put 87 in her 2000 taurus and the check engine light has never turned off.
i have always used premium in my 98 neon and have never had a check engine light lit.
maybe its coincidence, maybe not... i do know that after 150k miles she couldnt drive the intrepid anymore because every engine sensor had gone bad and they all had to be replaced-- only premium since and no check engine lights.
shes got 120k on the taurus, so soon enough ill know if there are the same issues[:)]

We have had tons of topics about gas. What it comes down to is what kind of car you are driving. Yes you can put regular in a car that says premium only, the computers in the cars can adjust to the lower octane but you will lose power and possible efficiency. It is best to use premium gas in your car especially if you have a warranty if something goes wrong they could try and blame it on the gas you use since the owner manual sates premium only. Some also argue in the long term it can do damage and cause premature wear on the internal parts of your car.
Conclusion modern day computers can adjust for lower octane and eliminate premature ignition. But you will lose HP and you might drop down on MPG. Your driving a mercedes it only cost about $2 more a tank to put the premium in.
Well today diesel is like $3.05 or up in New York! The other day I found Diesel for $2.99, I filled up my car, the next thing you know, I had to change my fuel filters, I change them, drove for the next day and my car stalled, look in the hood the fuel filters are clogged again, Now my car is at the FUCKIN SHOP GETTING THE FUCKIN FUEL TANK FLUSHED AND CLEANED!!! MOTHERFUCKER!!! But I don't think it was the cheap diesel cause the problem, its because..... Long Story, check the w123 forum, I post sumthin there.
