I know there is the issue of quality / reliability with Jeep. I've mainly owned Toyotas and so far haven't had to deal with that. Jeep obviously has a bad reputation but I've never owned one.
jeep, a bad reputation? youre kidding, right?

the jeep 4.0 inline 6 was quite possibly the most reliable vehicle our family ever owned. it was in a grand cherokee, but i see no reason why a wrangler with its fake roof, zipper/roll windows, manual transmission and transfer cases wouldnt be more reliable than the grand cherokee with powered and electrical everything.

that grand cherokee returned a respectable 21mpg *always* a/c, city whatever.

damn that was a nice car, 97 model laredo grand cherokee. the most plush and comfortable interior i think ive ever sat in. the velour had a deep pile that you could just sink into.

mmmm

did i mention it never went into the shop for so much as a misaligned piece of trim, let alone a mechanical fault in the 125k we had it? replaced brakepads, oil and wipers.

sold high, too.

You were the lucky one - I once looked at a wrangler - the back door would not even close

I do believe all post 1995 Mercedes are "bad" as far as quality goes

There for I have purchased the cheapest one on a 4 year plan & have absolutely no intention of keeping it longer -

If you look in the B forum you will see I already have first defect :-)

RE: G-like new Wrangler

i am just playing devils advocate, mostly because im a chrysler guy before a mercedes one.

to be honest, daimler coming to chrysler did chrysler a HUGE disservice. if you think about the direction they were going from 93-97(read: leaving fomo/gm way behind) as opposed to what theyre doing now, the difference is clear.

likewise mercedes.

it sounded SO wrong the other day when i read the new e class thread(i think)...

"daimler chrysler's luxury division, mercedes benz..."

[xx(][xx(][xx(] theyre turning into cadillacs or lincolns, ya know? it isnt that mythical, special, coveted thing. think the 300/eclass will share a platform in the next generation? i surely do.

sad sad sad.

i do hope one day to move on up to a w140 s320, but theyve all got such high miles. i dont think a new c class would outlast a neon, the finishing is better, but who cares about that whenever after 12 years you have to throw it away too? its the case with all of them, though.

i blame it on the ford taurus.

AsianML, did you really think the G people would keep this topic in their sheltered world? LMAO! Those guys are so anal. They need to get some humor in their lives or they will end up with ulcers and roids.

I had a 1988 Jeep Wrangler. Loved it. I would consider a 4 door Wrangler if it had a nice Mercedes CDI engine.
