RE: Gov't databse to verify immigration status of employees
This system has been blocked every step of the way by the GOP business lobby for years. Last year they finally relented and allow this 'test' system to be set up. If you want to see the real immigration debate instead of the phony racist bullshit put out by the House Republicans, who want to turn scrub women and janitors into felons while maintaining the utterly scandalous loopholes for criminals who hire aliens, then watch what happens with this system. If it finally becomes mandatory, then the people of the United States can finally be protected from traitors who break the law to compete unfairly and reap fat profits, something that used to be known as "racketeering", back in the days before the racketeers took over the Congress in 1994.
I don't see how this is "Big brother" - the businesses are ALREADY REQUIRED to do this. They just have made sure that it doesn't work, a typical GOP tactic. This is nothing more than a system that actually works to do the job it's supposed to do - keep illegals out of the legitimate workforce, so they can mow your lawn and babysit your kids, but they can't get an American's job in the American job market.
Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.
