RE: 2007 Mercedes E-Class facelift revealed (E320, E550, E63)

Here's a question, the new 63AMG engine boasts over 500hp, however, the torque has been decreased from over 500 to 465 (as compared to the 55AMG). What's everyone's opinion on this? Seems to me that it's a PR ploy to attract the majority of people that are "uber"-concentrated on simply hp instead of also considering torque. Knowing that the trend of buyers is to concentrate on hp, seems like AMG opted to increase the hp to boast the 500 mark and attract buyers, even though they're compromising the torque substantially. Basically, what I'm asking is, is this 63AMG engine really better - if even as good as the 55AMG engine?

A little too busy in the front for my tastes, but still a real nice package that is less controversial than the 5 series.

Maybe because it's Naturally Aspirated? I don't know. Good question.[?]

Yes it will be a whole lot better. The supercharger on the E55 takes away some HP since the engine has to power the supercharger and after some hard driving it suffers from what they call heat soak. The NA engine will be more responsive and i doubt anyone could tell that you lose 35lb of TQ and it wont suffer from heat soak or any "lag" that is associated with either a turbo or a supercharger. But the E63 along with the 7G will be a challenge to the E55 especially over 100 mph the new AMG is going to pull hard.

They have numbers out for the ML63 and the 60 mph+ acceleration is crazy. If I remember right over the standing kilometer the ML63 was only like 1-2 seconds behind the new M5 in acceleration.

They have been round on the E class for the past 10 or so years, it's one of the E classes trademarks.
