RE: dexcool?

If you're talking about the factory recommended coolant in GM vehicles, I think it works excellent. It has to be flushed eventually, but it keeps things running well.

RE: dexcool?

DON"T DO IT. If your head and intake gaskets are not made to withstand the dexcool, they will deterioate and cause MAJOR problems. Ask any GM 3100 V-6 owner.

BTW, get air in the system, you have JELLY!

RE: dexcool?

Dexcool isn't that bad, but I don't see its advantages. The issues with dexcool sludging up have to do with people mixing it with green stuff (topping it off with coolant other than dexcool) and using those tablets. They recommend to use some sort of a coolant tablet that is supposed to do something good but what it does is muck things up, plugging heater cores and stuff. I think most dexcool horror stories are due to the above two things. HTH

RE: dexcool?

Mixing is a bad idea due to the gelling. I really can't see how dexcool is going to affect a head gasket or intake gasket. The GM intake manifold problem is not unique to GM. Certain ford 4.6's in pre 1998 crown victorias-not the trucks, GM 4.3 v6, 3.4 v6 and neons with 2. whatever have plastic intake manifolds which tend to crack and make a mess and expensive repair. I've had it happen several times on different vehicles-some with green and some with dexcool. It's the POS plastic manifold-not the coolant that causes the problem. I've been told that the VW coolant is really dexcool and have mixed with no bad results in 50k miles. If vw uses it maybe benz does to!

RE: dexcool?

Just go to NAPA and get some Xerex G05, which is the same formula as MB coolant and is approved for MB vehicles. Doesn't cost much more than Dexcool or any other long life and you don't have to worry about it doing anything weird to your cooling system. Even the same piss yellow color of MB coolant.

If it jams, force it. If it breaks, it needed replacing anyway.
