Hey Photochoppers!

I figured out how to use "smudge" but I'm trying to find the utility that makes the background streaked, as if everything was moving except the subject.

RE: Hey Photochoppers!

use the polyagonal lasso tool, 'mask out' the car(mask tool is on the layers palette), copy drag this layer onto....

the full image youve opened into a new file, paste the masked layer onto the background.

select the background layer and play with filters all day long.

this way will allow you to make the object(your car) more the focus of the image if you desire-- by enlarging it, youll have less confrontation between the subject and the background.

play around with composition this way as well-- fun shit.[:)]

and go ahead and use the clone stamp tool to remove those ugly parking lot stripes whileever youre at it[xx(]

RE: Hey Photochoppers!

select background only - you may have to use magic wand and lasso to select and desect. Using CTRL or ALT keys while selecting will add/subtract from previous selection or depending on the version you have, you can set add/subtract option via buttons that appear on menu bar.

Go to Filter - select motion blur. Experiment; have fun with it.

Depending on severity of the blur, you may have to 'ease' the boundary between selected area that has been applied with a blur versus the part that remained intact. Use a manual blur tool or smudge to soften the boundary after deselecting (CTRL-D).

I wish I can show you a pictorial tutorial but I've got a garage door to fix (or something to that effect so people get an impression I've got life outside BW).

*edit*
iNeon beat me to the punch - his method introduces new layer while what I described, manipulation takes place on the same layer. Come to think of it, Background Layer is always locked by default so I have to make a Background Copy Layer anyways...

RE: Hey Photochoppers!

youll do better(much, much better) to be patient for the real files to get here, these were dumbed down and are of horrid quality, almost unusable in photoshop.

hey nao-- whats the white streak on the right of that one? is that from the blur?

did you apply motion blur sweeping from right to left?
if so, it's probably photoshop forced to blend in blank info from outside the canvas thereby 'diluting' the saturation.
