RE: A refresher on Global Cooling. errrr Global Warming
It's not online, you have to buy the mag. It's in the current issue. Basically, vast amounts of the carbon dioxide we are emitting is being dissolved into the sea. They started recording direct readings on this some thirty or more years ago, and they also have ice core samples to ascertain ocean PH for millenia. The affects of carbon pollution are obvious, and the trend over the last 25 years is astounding. This is causing the ocean, which is naturally alkaline, to become acidic. Shell fish shells are composed of akaline material, as are coral reefs. Since the time frame is, from an evolutionary perspective, catastrophic, we may be about to cause mass extinctions in the ocean due to disruptions in their food chains that will bring about massive worldwide starvation.
Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.
