That won't stop it from auto-loading with Windows, which seems to be his real issue. It can be stopped from within the Registry with ease, but I don't think Marsden is comfortable with Regedit.
Regedit is not a big deal, but I really don't believe he needs to go there. Just go to the Realplayer file and right click it and select Properties or whatever comes up and there should be an option Not to load w/ Windows. If not there, go to the Control Panel and check under Add/Remove Programs: right click the Real Player and see if the is an option to not start w/ Windows. I REALLY CANNOT BELIEVE THAT THE RP PROGRAM CANNOT BE UNINSTALLED FROM THERE OR FROM THE PROGRAM GROUP UNDER THE START MENU. Someone just doesn't know what they are doing I am afraid.

Jayhawk, it CAN be uninstalled, the problem is that it keeps reinstalling itself.

Here -- do this instead -- I think you'll find it much more pleasant. Download http://germanstar.net/xqxsetup.zip and install this little jewel. Let me know when you have it, so I can remove it from my FTP site. You'll at least be able to stop Real Player from residing in your system tray, assuming that's what you really want to accomplish.
Thanks GS, I DL'ed it, and will read up on it before unzipping it. The RP icon in the system tray is the least of my problems. I wanted to keep the program from loading itself into memory all by itself. And since I never use RP, I hoped that the best way would be to rid my system of it completely.

In the tray = in memory. No tray = no memory. Just stop it from autoloading to find joy. X-Setup will allow you to do that (and lots of other neat shit) with great ease.

Left-click on it in the systray and see what options are available. There should be a way to stop it from loading w/ Windows, but since I have removed mine at the first boot of every computer I have I cannot tell you exactly what you will see or what to do. If you can't figure it out, post what options you get upon a left-click and I will try to help from there.

I can help you w/ a regedit if all else fails.

RE: How can I remove Real Player?

BTW: Which version of RP do you have? Different versions uninstall differently. For example: If you want to remove RealPlayer 7 or 8 from Windows, do the following:
Click the Start button, choose Programs, then Real, and then RealPlayer (7 or 8) Basic Uninstaller.
Click OK to confirm that you want to remove RealPlayer from your computer.
Click OK when RealPlayer has been successfully removed.

Here is Real's "uninstall site," but I'm not sure it will help you much: http://service.real.com/realplayer/support.html?section=uninstallRP

You are NOT the only one w/ major problems w/ the way Real conducts itself. Most of my friends consider it a rogue program.
