The rain pours on the righteous.....

So today it was the first mild and persistantly rainy day in London for weeks and weeks,11C/52F.Being the type to seize a golden opportunity I decided to wash my car since it hasn't been pampered in that way since July of last year.I even went and spent £1 on a new sponge and another £1 on some fancy wash'n'wax shampoo.See I have this arrangement with the spirit in the sky,I wash,he/she rinses.
Well, although the light was failing by the time I finished,Gerty is sparkling.
It feels so good to know that the ordeal is over until the summer,or maybe the fall.

You wash your car once a year, whether it needs it not, right? [;)]

Yep,following the lead set in matters of bathing by our good Queen Elizabeth (the first one of course,I'm sure our current Queen is fastidious in matters of hygene).[:D]

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ^^

Once a year??!! Gotta be from Europe! When I took delivery of my new '00 S class and drove over 2k miles in beautiful Europe, I could not find a car freakin' wash anywhere! I finally parked in a riverbed and used some dirty underwear to give the poor thing a much needed bath! Got pics to prove![:)]

Purty Gerty! - you somehow managed to wash off another 'i' as well...something missing in your 'genes' maybe.

Washing is one issue, but I was just trying to work it out today and I think 'Gerty' has only been properly waxed four times since 1992.But as a testament to the quality of the finishes used back then, you will all have to just take my word for how shiny the thing is after a quick wash.I think I spent about 25 mins on it today.

RE: The rain pours on the righteous.....

do you at least keep the interior cleaned and dusted?

i can deal with dirt in and on a car, but not filth or stank.

my sister is so bad about doing it your way, DR, that she has had to replace both her cars prematurely because of the stench in the summer.

im telling you, i have to clean these things out after she gives them back to my parents for a new one....

the intrepid was so bad, the carpets were caked down flat with this black, shiny, dried up cola syrup and nasty so badly that i had to use this system for cleaning....

1) remove seat
2) spray simplegreen full strength on the stain, brush with a wheel brush, reapply 10 times.
3) park car on hill with front higher than rear in the driveway.
4) use the garden hose to fill the floorboards with water to just below the rear seat.
5) scrub and scrub.
6) vacuum with shop vac.

7) repeat until the filth and heat has 1) made you evacuate the contents of your stomach or b) the car is actually clean.

[xx(][xx(][xx(]

it still smells.

This signature removed to protect the innocent.

Absolutely ,the interior is virtually pristine. We have always been as fanatical about the interiors of our cars as we are disinclined to wash or wax the exteriors. My sister and I were never allowed ANY food or drinks in the car as kids,no sticky fingers and muddy shoes were bagged and booted(put in the trunk).I think this attitude developed because we both had company cars from an early age and everyone knows they are indestructable.Pop got a company car with his first job in commerce after graduation and I got my first when I was 21.The resale value was of no consequence,it was replaced every couple of years and the only concern was the environment in which one sat to drive.
You may remember from my post regarding replacement of the wiper assembly that the guy at the breaker's yard didn't believe that the interior of my 126 was original and unrestored.
