Question for Shabah...

I'm asking you since you seem to have a good handle on the rationale behind the riots following the editorial cartoons.

A SF Chronicle columnist recently commented (in part of a larger column) that if we hadn't invaded Iraq and Afghanistan, then the lampooning editorial cartoons wouldn't have resulted in the Muslim riots, etc. (Of course he is also of the "I hate anything to do with GW" ilk, so of course the administration is to blame for everything he doesn't like, including the fact that the moon is running out of green cheese, so his opinion is suspect.)

At any rate, from what you've described, I have to disagree with the author on that point; can you give me your insignt on that?

RE: Question for Shabah...

Well it's like when a bunch of kids are at play. Some tend to have that look “beat me up. So guess what? In all seriousness I agree a little bit with the article’s logic but not all kids’ gathering yield a bullying session.
Is GW at fault? He is partly but not wholly. Are the Muslim riots stupid maneuvers? Yep, because they made it worse for the non-radical crowd to have a say. It’s the non-radicals that can bridge and iron out misunderstanding but we are shunted from both sides. We turn around to talk to either side and we are accused of being traitors or bagged with the terrorists with no hesitation. The bottom line the radicals get the coverage and their actions seem to speak for everyone. They are a minority but the media make them look like they are the whole population. News sell better that that way and the hate crowd feel better about themselves also thinking that they were right all along…
The cartoons were an excuse for those radicals to show up in greater numbers and put the blame on the West. So if you look at it from this angle you will have to think what’s prodding them to do so? Well Abu-Ghraib and the invasion of Iraq and for some the invasion of Afghanistan are drivers that lead to this show. In a vacuum from such events maybe it would not have been such a deal especially that the riots actually started in Europe. Those events are squarely blamed on GW so I can see where that writer is coming from.
