Kraftwerk

Wow.

I didn't think music this good was possible. I am in disbelief that some of this music was produced as early as 1968.

Freude am fahren!

Yes,I think 'Autobahn' was a top ten hit in the UK in 1974 (when I was a kid I hasten to add) and I have liked the band ever since. My overall favourite track is 'The Model' and somewhere I have a CD with about six different versions on it some in German some in English. It sounds really good on a full-on nightclub sound system.
You may also like the German band 'Yellow' if you like Kraftwerk.[:)]

RE: Kraftwerk

Ahh, Kraftwerk. Unfortunately for them, Ecstasy had not yet been invented or surely they would have been bigger that the Beatles. The obvious inspiration for Mike Myers "Sprockets", they revolutionized the music scene at they time with their droning Euro-trash hipster beat. There had been several attempts by bands to use the Moog synthesizer in pop music but never as successful as these Teutonic titans of techno.
They are so old my friend that they had a song praising the latest marvel at the time, the pocket calculator, "I'm the operator of my pocket calculator". In regard to their songwriting skills, it appeared to me at the time that they simply wrote a bunch of nouns on little chits of paper and placed them in a hat, a quadrangle shaped hat robotically fabricated from an alien alloy, but a hat none the less.
For a little more melody, listen to Tangerine Dream. For a little more malady, Trio is still one of the coolest bands ever.

Wasn't that song around 18 minutes long?

I believe the full album version is 22 minutes-one of those 'take your toke and hold your smoke tracks'[8D]

YMO (Yellow Magic Orchestra) - Japan's answer to Kraftwerk.

I also recommend Ryuichi Sakamoto (pompous asshole) but some beautiful works featured in "Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence" and his all-star cast "Heart Beat" albums.
