RE: Bush "in dark" on ports deal
430, there are two areas that I have general problems with the administration on here (other than another gov't having a direct hand in our port system, which does make me a little queasy, honestly):
1. The fact that noone who looked at this thought of the political ramifications, and (at least it seems) did not push this up the chain of command to make sure that everyone was kosher with it. Very dumb, imho, especially for such a political administration.
2. As Marsden alluded to, Bush is really forceful about this, and is personalizing something that he didn't even know about until a couple of days ago. That really makes me scratch my head (or is it my dandruff again). He also is using the "trust me, I know what I'm doing" line again, and even he should know that he doesn't have the poll numbers for that anymore. And it is playing out more as arrogance than anything else; where's Karl Rove? He's really the one who would have not had a situation like this come up in the past.
