A question to CA residents: bottle deposit

I realized that when I buy bottle of water, milk or any other there’s additional charge for so called “bottle deposit. What the hell is it?[}:)]
Today, I bought a bottle of milk at Pavilions (Safeway/Vons). The receipt says $3.29 for milk, and $1.00 for “MILK BTL DEPOSIT.[:(!]
If I take a bottle back to the store do they give me my dollar back?

RE: A question to CA residents: bottle deposit

I think you are talking about 2 different things.
CA redemption value, or whatever it is called is about 8 cents for average container.
So when I buy 30 bottles of coke a month, I pay them $2.40 deposit, than I put the containers into recycling bin and have to pay recycling company to pick it up on the same day my garbage company picks the garbage.
With the milk there is different story. I think it originated from Costco competition. At the time, when regular supplies were selling D-milk for $3.50 a gallon, Costco was selling 2-gallons pact for $3.99.
To stay with the competition all the grocery chains now offer some brands of the milk matching the Costco deal.
Meaning 2 gallons cost about $4.
The first bottle cost $3 and the second $1.
That suppose to make sense somewhere. Don't ask me where.

Many states are getting tough on litter. That's what the deposit is for. If you have to pay a deposit for the container, chances are you won't throw it away on the roadside. It does work. Includes soda and beer cans. Good! Too bad you have to force people to do the right thing. [:(!]

Why don't you ask the store who issued the receipt?

If you went to a restaurant and had a question about the bill you wouldn't come home and ask BW to sort it out would you?

I asked a clerk at Pavillion, and she said I can get a dollar back if I bring back the bottle. Glorious![:D]
Teach this to TheRazz so he can build up some funds...
