Whoa! I mean no disrepect to my Aussie bretheren. Hell, my liver gets all excited every time it sees the words "Foster's" or "Toohey's" For the record I love all things Australian.

Except the Australian Wheat Board

I have a professional interest in U.S. agriculture developed over 30 years and I can tell you the AWB as it's called is a riddle wrapped in an enigma. An organization that can seemingly sell product to any market in the world mysteriously "just" under the U.S. or any other wheat-exporting nations offer price, including the European Union... [?] all I'd like to see is a little transparency in its price formulation...

Meanwhile, back at the ranch... we've stopped all subsidies and cut our domestic programs to wheat producers to the point where we're closing family farms. Even the so-called "corporate farms" that produce wheat can't compete with the AWB.

What gives here? AWB open your books!

There. I feel better. Down off my soapbox now.

Well, no matter what you Aussies think of the U.S., American's views of Australia continue to grow more and more positive. This can be directly attributed to our simple minded needs:

1) Olivia Newton John
2) Mad Max
a) V8 interceptors of the MFP
b) Mel Gibson in tight leathers
3) Men at Work
4) Foster's
5) Outback Steak House (Probably has nothing to do with Australia, but most yanks probably think it does)
6) the Pontiac GTO (aka Holden Monaro)
7) That crocodile dude (both of them)

Glad you guys like all that stuff ('cept your'e right about no. 5 - nothing to do with Oz), 'cause we're not particularly keen on any of them (OK - some Aussies like the Monaro) but the rest, we're so happy you took - gets 'em out of our hair!!

glad you like the GTo, so do we, and the very last one rolled off the line about a month ago.

As far as AWB is concerned, dodgy as they were, we have so much friggin wheat here we dump it in the ocean. Like, there are so many wheat farwmers that have bitten the dust in the last decade due to such a glut that you could buy it at next to nothing. Still, im sure the current parliamentary inquiry will be covering up any indescetions properly![:(]

Cheers,
