interesting... the Beetle could have been an english product - if those guys had let go of their patriotic manners. Imagine what it would have meant for their car industry (presently almost non-existant).

Yes,our German neighbors always were in the forefront of technology, whether it be Civilian or Military, hell, they were distilling heavy water in Trondheim before the Los Alamos project was started.
Back in the '50's there was a cheap P.R. potboiler released from Hollywood, supposedly a "biography"of Werner Von Braun, one of the Germans we eagerly embraced.
It was titled "I aim for the stars",focusing mainly on his rocket developements, glossing over, for the most part his munitions work,I,E,V1-V2 et al.......
Needless to say it was a commercial failure.
My Father and his friend Roger Wolfe Kahn,{son of Otto Kahn},who both worked at Grumman,Kahn was head of the Service Dept, claimed the film failed to find it's audience because of the title, they said the film should have been titled"I aim for the stars but sometimes hit London".......
That picture reminds me some characters from latest Si-Fi movie [8)]
British have some good cars manufactured. About 4 years ago I had a pleasure to drive Rovers - small one and really impressive big one. Don't remember the numbers, but the only cars, that beat me on Autobahn were couple of BMW 6-series.
