RE: More email from the "those were the days" people
The problem is the use and reliance on technology as my first math teacher in college asked on the first day " how many of you are freshman" and being a freshman i raised my hand along with most of the class he then said "This isnt high school anymore and all of your prior math teachers are idiots and didnt teach you a thing" looking around at each other we are puzzled he then tells a story about a kid who wanted to be a math major and got a full ride into college, the kid gets the first test back and gets an F on it, to make the rest of the story shot he got an F because the only way he knew how to do the problems was with a calculator and the calculator he wanted to use on the test was banned from the testing center since any idiot could just type in the numbers and in reality the kid knew nothing about math and only how to use his calculator. So i took my teachers advice not to use my calculator if i want to pass the class and move on. But i will say its amazing what todays graphing calculators can do.
