Firebird resto

Anyone ever owned or rebuilt a 73 Firebird? I just picked one up (I know I know) and would like to get some tips/ pointers.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

RE: Firebird resto

the best advice i can give you with an old gm 2 door is to have the door hinges and check-straps replaced[:)]

those doors will seriously break an ankle if they swing closed on a delicate person, likewise for little fingers.

and replace the plastics, dont have them dyed, gm used a lot of cheap(huge panels of it) plastic in these particular cars and it just doesnt last as long as the stuff in the mercedes cars.

i had a friend with a 'restored' 79 camaro(isnt that the same body?) and thats what i am thinking of... i could be wrong. his restoration consisted of painting the car in his garage, spraying all of the plastics blue and running huge ammounts of every type of snake oil in the driveline.

i think his restoration lasted about 18 months before the plastics started to just fall off, the doors took all ones strength to close and the transmission ended up blowing up.

it had the most overassisted power steering/brakes of any car ive ever driven, it was like driving a lowered eldorado with a really ugly body.

good luck on the car! we want pictures, dont we?

Yeah, please take care of those plastics. the door panels are notorious for falling off spontaneously.
Near my old house a guy put his 75 Bird for sale for US 4,000.00 - door panels were in the trunk (...).
Guess the thing has still the for sale sign on.

good luck[}:)][}:)]

You haven't seen anything yet...
Whenever I go to Bahrain and I happen to stay in a hotel and no matter how many stars it boasts I always stumble on someone or a few that would have passed out in corridors and even elevators. Heck I had someone get into my suite and fall asleep next to the dinning table, I guess in his stupor he could not find the bedrooms...
