RE: A Muslim's point of view...
Well, chew on this for a moment.
Denmark is the only country in Europe with a registered Nazi party that is voted on in elections.
When is "freedom of speech" extend to intolerance of others in the form of racial/relgious bigotry and hate??
In the UK, there are laws against inciting racial/religious hatred. Had Denmark had similar laws, perhaps this would have not happened. So maybe the Danish government is responsible for allowing liberalism to manifest to the level of intolerance?
Furthermore, the Danish paper *reprinted* the cartoons (they came out initially in Sept 2005) as an experiment to see how the last vestige of religious self-censorship (Islam) would be handled by the press. Not getting the worldwide "reaction" wanted the first time, and despite over a dozen Muslim countries ambassadors rejections, they printed these cartoons again.
Looks like the Danish paper thinks the world's largest practicing religion may not take this seriously the second time. A silly miscalculation. One cannot insult and ridicule the very ideology that unites a billion people worldwide, then hide behind the skirt of "freedom of speech". Sorry. In my opinion, the editor of the newspaper and staff should be arrested for inciting hatred. That would happen to me in America if I was stupid enough to do the same.
C'mon, really, especially after 9/11 everyone expected the outcome of the Muslims to be over the top like this. I'm suprised no one was killed by these Muslims yet. The West has caused much animosity in that area of the world, and the last thing anyone wanted was this to top it all off.
