Outsourcing American Jobs

It Has been an ongoing trend for companies to lay off american workers so they can go to another continent and pay someone Less than $2 an hour to do the same job.
It aggravates me everytime I get on the phone with tech support and I have to try to talk to someone with a very thick acsent. And there have been times where I have to repeat myself 3 or 4 times just so they can understand what I am saying.

Here is a list of companies we've confirmed are "Exporting America." These are U.S. companies either sending American jobs overseas, or choosing to employ cheap overseas labor, instead of American workers.

Hmm, Nike, what a suprise..

If it jams, force it. If it breaks, it needed replacing anyway.

RE: Outsourcing American Jobs

What I find amusing are the companies with "American" in them i.e. American Greetings,American Standard,American Uniform etc..[B)]

RE: Outsourcing American Jobs

Economics 101-- jobs always follow low caost labor.
You must remember, that since world-wide communications have become so good, that we are no longer isolated by our oceans. American who perform these types of jobs are now in competition for their jobs.
Would you prefer artificial means to keep these jobs in the US? What do you think would be the effect on the cost of goods and services provided by these companies, if they were forced to 10X the cost for the same service?
On the other hand, if everyone decides to not buy from companies who employ such practices, they may be able to force a change. The power of the consumer is amazing.

RE: Outsourcing American Jobs

If you look at a majority of the companies with more than a couple of thousand employees they will have some sort of operation outsourced overseas.

Countries have their core competancies and with golbal economies it just does not make sense for every job to be performed in the US.

If you really want to impact outsourcing a couple of things you can do. One refuse to shop with companies that outsource and contact them in wirting (not email, snail mail) with the reason for your lack of patronage and two don't shop at walmart.

When I used to have AT&T for broadband they had the gall to outsource their call center to Canada. Damn them, making me talk to some educated person in the great white north instead of someone in the US.

RE: Outsourcing American Jobs

That's all fine and dandy but what about the under achievers in high school? Where are they going to get jobs from? Statistically is has been proven now that there is a shift among boys towards a downhill tendency to be lower achievers. I can’t cite the study but there was a nice article in Newsweek magazine about this topic.
Our teenagers are lost in their Xboxes and Nentendos and can barely do simple math. Do you think that those low wage jobs have a chance to swing back over here? I am thinking our boys will not accept low wages no matter what the realities. I wonder what the solution might be.
Maybe Morpheus will be kind enough to keep hiring them.
