RE: Cingular GSM
Yes. Hey, if you own a Benz, you shouldn't have to ask how much, but its not something you want to use as your exclusive net access. There are a lot of ways to keep the cost down - It also acts as a WiFi - if there is a freebee network nearby it will hop on it if you want it to. It is a card-of-last resort. I continue to use my laptop as usual, plugging into the client's LAN or my own hookups, but if there is no other, I can use the card. Also, the minutes are at a reduced rate, so far costing me about an extra 60$ a month. The card itself is not cheap - set me back about 400 clams. But if you're in the middle of a Louisiana swamp working on some gas line where everything has been destroyed by a hurricane, like where I found myself last week, it is utterly invaluable, especially if your client or company has a VPN. Mindblowing.
Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.
