RE: How does one get out of jury duty?
Oh, that is easy.
It started with 71 of us to pool for 4 trials. We were split up randomly into two pools, 35 in one and 36 in the other. The two trials we had were one for insurance claim and another for criminal mischief (asshole destroying property with a four wheeler).
The first question that got me out of one trial was "do any of you have --------insurance?" I , of course did, so I said yes. That put me in a pool of about 22 people. We then moved to the next courtroom.
I was asked if I knew any police officers. Since my dad was a cop for 38 years, I knew just about everyone. They then asked if I knew anyone at the D.A.'s office. Bingo! Knew two people. After the jury pool was chosen (11, 9 for jury and 2 alts.) 9 of us were left (2 dismissed because of work scheduling).
Make sure you get the names of at least 2 police officers and 1 person at the D.A.'s office. Then give a few more whacky ass answers as mentioned above, you'll be dismissed and most likely never called back.
Benefits for serving on the jury here: .05 per mile and 11.00 day!
