New York City's $115.00 Fine for Double Parking

Finding a parking space can be a challenge in New York City, especially on commercial strips. The Meter Maids now equipped with their new handheld computerized ticket-writer, can issue summons a lot faster without a mistake. Their scanner reads the bar code on your registration sticker, they enter the violation code, the imbedded printer imprints date and time, and they gleefully place the dreadful ticket on your windshield.
I am fed-up and may go postal at any given time. [}:)]

One day I was watching Jackass on MTV, and they had a little prank called the Meter fairy. They dressed up a man in tights and had him stuff quarters into expired meters. If I remember it correctly the meter maids got pissed off and had the fairy arrested.

It is illegal as stupid as it sounds.I drop change in meters of other cars if it's expired and only at the same meter I'm feeding. It's a pretty hefty fine here to do so.

One instance which was quite funny is when Fairbanks first added the meters downtown even after voters said hell no! Shortly after, some group of people went out and cut off each and every one of them off their post.Of course shortly after they were replaced with new ones.Never was a repeat of this yet.

Bizarre thet it is illegal!! Must be some special bylaw.

How would they know (or care) who put the money in the meter. You are paying for the time spent there, unless it says you can't park there for longer than the maximum time. You could feasably park there for a month of sundays as long as you kept putting the money in.

Here in QLD down on the Gold Coast (southern QLD) they used to have bikini cladd 'meter maids' whos job it was to go and put money into the meters of rental and interstate plated cars so tourists wouldn't get parking tickets - don't know if they still do it - the 'meter maids' were paid by the Council which also issued the parking tickets.

RE: New York City's $115.00 Fine for Double Parking

The meter maids here are so aggressive here it is not even funny. I got a $115 ticket the other day for being parked at a hydrant for like 30 seconds. The meter readers are out in force and they have to have some kind of quota even though the city denies it. It generates a lot of money for the city. They finally backed off the feeding the meters thing on Sunday too after a couple of years of that policy. Churchgoers were the most instrumental in getting rid of the Sunday meters thing. They compained that they had to run out of church every hour to put more coins in. Now the city will have to spend millions to change all the street signs. BTW the meters in my area are only 10 minutes for 25 cents. It was 15 mins for a quarter for years. A lot of "no standing any time" signs have gone up too and a large amount of spots have been done away with completely like that. I have to find a good spot tonight for tomorow's alternate side, and then again after work tomorrow for Fridays alt-side. At least I have a little mk1 vw to park and not the w124. The cheapest lot around me is over $300 a month and that it outside on a lift and subsitiutions are not allowed. I am getting so sick of NYC. My jetta was vandalized last week and they wrecked my dash while ripping out the radio.

Doesn't work. I did that for a while, and got nailed with a second ticket for using a "false ticket." Ended up being like $100. Doh!!!

Oh real that is a shame. Did you park your car in the same place or somthing like that I cant believe that they bothered to check. If I was a meter maid I'd try to avoid giving out tickets the death threats must get to them after a while lol
