We saw two movies this week end. One good, one bad.
We saw two movies this week end. One good, one bad. My wife and I are movie buffs. The good one... "Match Point", Woody Allen's best movie in years. Intelligent. London instead of Manhattan. Chris Wilton, a young tennis instructor, becomes involved with a wealthy family, one member of which he's giving tennis lessons to. This leads to his rise in the world of upper class people and his subsequent romantic involvement with two women. Nice little plot twist at the end. Double thumbs up!
The other film my wife talked me into, but after "rave" reviews from the (liberal) media, I said OK.
"Brokeback Mountain" yes, a film about two gay sheep herder cowboys. After being bombarded by the media that this movie was "beautiful, sensitive and moving enough to make audiences cry". I found that both of the men were extremely selfish, deceitful, lying and uncaring to their wives and children. This was not a movie about love, but about sex. We went to this movie with an open mind, but found the story to be lame. Double thumbs DOWN.

Not too loud or you'll be dubbed a homophobe. [:D]
Rented a couple last week.
The new Nick Cage movie (Lord of War?) was really good.
Transporter 2 was a load of dung but good car scenes if you like audi's.

I just watched a review and clips from 'Walk the line'
Looks good to me! Anyone seen it ??
Put it this way: I think, Joaquin Phoenix can retire now. I don't see how on Earth he can improve on his performance in "Walk the Line". An absolute gem of an acting job, IMHO.

I saw a very highly regard film last weekend: The New World. Good god -- what a snooze! Acting was good, cinematography was excellent, and I admire the attempt to tell the true story. Unfortunately, the true story is incredibly boring, and certain doesn't merit a 150 minute run time. [|)]

I wholeheartedly agree. He also did all his own singing in that flic. Remember what a good job he did in "Gladiator" with Russell Crowe? He's a very versatile actor.
