Men don't make passes
At girls who wear glasses

-----------Dorothy Parker

I got my first pair of glasses. It's all downhill from here.[V]

Anyone else wear glasses?
Jill, it really sucks, I, at my advanced age, now have three (3) pair. One for far, one for reading, and one for both. Fortunately I'm good for work at about a meter without any. (remember i'm an IT asshole)

It's OK though there are some pretty hip styles these days. Besides, I have always felt that a woman in glasses is extremely sexy.

Awwwwwwwww thanks. I'm still trying to get used to the glasses--they feel really funny. And, for some reason, I keep putting my hair in a bun. What's up with that?

Re: IT assholes--the only IT guys that are assholes are the ones that block me from seeing all the videos and pics I click on at work. Your former avatar, however, was not blocked.[:0]

RE: News Item

Jilly, I like the new avatar. It reminds me of the old HBO series, "Dream On". Great show.

Anyway ... as a former wearer of corrective eyewear (glasses, hard contacts, soft contacts) I can sympathize with where you are. Strangely, as with most other accessory-type things, those of the female persuasion are more easily able to pull off the glasses look than are most men. But like anything else it's all a matter of adjustment.

Personally I'd still be happy in soft contacts with glasses as a backstop, but something in my eye chemistry changed several years ago and I'd have to use drops almost constantly, and even at that I could only go about 3-4 hours in them before I had a headache and had to remove them. At which point I couldn't stand being in glasses all the time, so I opted for Lasik. Picked an excellent doctor (no coupons for eye surgery, please!) and have never regretted it.

When you're ready for your next pair of glasses I'll toss out a suggestion that has worked for lots of people. Have a friend go with you and bring a video camera. Try on virtually every frame they have -- even the ones you wouldn't normally -- filming from straight on, partial profile and full profile, as well as with your head tilted up and down. Film both from a reasonable distance as well as fairly close up. As you change frames make sure you record a marker so you know which ones they were. Then go home and you can watch the video -- with your glasses on so you can see well -- and pick the ones you like the best.

RE: News Item

The problem with a mirror is that you can't wear your glasses while you're trying on frames, so you may not be able to see clearly what they look like, particularly from any kind of distance (unless you're far-sighted, of course).

FYI, referring to San Francisco as "Frisco" gets you scowls of disgust. Acceptable monikers are "San Fran", "The City" and (man is this one creative) "S F".

Re: the miniskirt joke, I have a good friend who has adopted the joke of referring (gently) to California as "the land of fruits and nuts." Similarly, he (also gently) refers to my locale as "the gay bay".[:D][:D]

Oh yeah,I've only bought sunglasses so far so I didn't consider what it's like to be as blind as a bat.

Having been an Angelino for nearly three years,I chose the term 'Frisco' advisedly.[;)]

I have traded thousands and thousands of tonnes of California almonds, pistachios, raisins and prunes over the years,so if I hear one more fruit and nut joke.................[}:)]
