RE: Standard or Auto

manual-- the problem with them being that now they are reserved for bottom of the bucket econocars or high end luxury cars.

and dont go on some bullshit tangent that a c class with a v6/5 speed at 30 large is an entry level car.

i want a nice car with a heavy body and a 5 speed, preferably a coupe. something like a mustang, but not a mustang. i'd love a 3.5 v6 chrysler 300/magnum/charger with a manual, but if they make it, itll be in the sr/t 8 version, wont it?

i like the neon because its a manual, it has a modicum of go fast in it and it was very affordable with numerous(fully optioned for 14k-- sunroof, premium radio, all power, trim upgrades)options.

with the new calibre, one can only get a manual if they opt for the weakest engine and lowest of trim levels. still 14k, but for that you get a seat like sandpaper, hubcaps and cranks for the windows. that interests me very little.

hell, i'd take a manual grand prix coupe(this is how much i want a decent sized manual coupe) if they made it.

This signature removed to protect the innocent.

Depends on the type of car. A small convertible sports car begs for a stick to keep the low torque engine up top. A heavy vehicle with loads of torque is usually better with a creamy slush box.

There is hope - the Challenger showcar has a manny. Of course, that will probably be the first thing axed. [:(!]

I'm still confused about AMG's "sporty" pretensions when it doesn't offer an manny on any of its models. And the "our trannies can't handle that much power" really is an excuse for only the first go around. They've had plenty of time to beef them up by now. That's why, despite the lower hp, the Ms will always make more sense to me.

2002 Ccoupe, not as good as others, apparently

I miss my 1997 Mitsubishi eclipse GSX all wheel drive turbo. Quick little car and a 5 speed manual.
Sold it to a kid who chopped it up and wrecked it. (bastard)
I don't mind the auto in my ML though.

No way-automatics are so competant and varied now that manuals are like dinos. It's like doing your laundry in a twin-tub.[xx(]Add to which, most of us have to deal with town or congested driving where clutch work is tedious. Then it's nice to have a free hand to smoke, tune your radio, eat a banana, surprise your partner............[:p]

I like to read the paper on my way to work. It's hard to turn the pages while holding my beer as it is, I don't need anymore distractions thank you very much.
