week later, no G.

So i gave the dealer a week this time before i called to see how the progress of my random messages and non shifting G was doing.

She said " well it will not start" I said ran when it came down there! She also said they replaced the battary at the tune of like $230.00 and she thinks the alt and voltage regulator are bad. So they have one ordered because its still doing the same thing with a new battery. Once that is installed they hope it will fix all the other problems / messages that showing up on the dash.

So ill keep you all posted. In the mean time im 100% car shopping now. If you all have any suggestion on any diesel trucks let me know [:D]

RE: week later, no G.

I would love a new G or trade down to 01 or so with out the electrical problems. I can not swing the payments on the new G so that is out of the question.

I think im going to go back to american for a few years or at least move from mercedes. I love my G but im sure all of you would have given up by now on it.

I do like the looks of the ford excursion, however they quit making it in 05 so ill have to find a used one. Also the way they drop in value im sure no one will want to trade. So my next option is back to a diesel truck. The way im thinking right now ill get a F350 Crew cab diesel short bed dually. That way it will still fit in the garage. Then i was thinking about doing a "snug top" / camper top. the ones that fit like factory stuff. That way it will look like a dually excursion ;) Figure trade in the G finance the rest through Ford motor credit and ride it a few years. Also you all know im adicted to power and the ford makes a lot with parts. Bully dog programer, exhaust and propane bump it to close to 600 hp and 1100 lbtq. [:D]

RE: week later, no G.

Don't go for the Ford diesel. The 6.0L powerstroke is possibly the worst engine you could buy in any vehicle anywhere. How about 77 factory revisions since 2003, and it still isn't fixed. There is only one diesel worth considering, the Cummins turbo diesel. I have owned two Isuzu-max diesels in GM trucks and I still have a Ford with the 7.3 diesel. I am on my fourth Dodge with the Cummins. There is simply no comparison. If you want to hit that 1000 lb/ft mark the Cummins is the ONLY one that will do it reliably. It is the ONLY medium duty deisel in a light duty truck. The old Dodge trucks were not much to brag about, a great engine looking for a suitable home. My 2006 Ram Mega Cab is awesome. It has a power moonroof, leather, in roof dvd player with wireless headphones, a huge back seat that reclines, sattelite radio and on and on. The Chrysler corp has had huge strides in quality since the merger. They are by far the most trouble free of American trucks.

The Ford diesel will give you more problems than a 2002 G500, don't go there[;)]

RE: week later, no G.

Kerr,

Unfortunately I have given up on the G[:(]

My 2000 turned out to be just like your horror stories, so do not be fooled that pre-2002 is any better.

My '06 Dodge Power Wagon is suppose to come in today. Check that bad boy out on Dodge's website. The Power Wagon comes with front and rear differential locks; a 12K Warn winch; long bilstein shocks and a sway bar that you can disconnect with a push of the button (all stock). With all of Dodge's incentives you can get a real good deal, just have to wait 10-12 weeks for delivery.

So sorry. My 99 is a gem. My '02's well let us not go there but they are better than they were. Service is still an issue on these MBUSA vehicles. Gotta say that I am 11K into the 99 and I like it better everyday.

RE: week later, no G.

you are correct about the cummings they are the best motor out there. Shane has one with the big twin turbo set up and alcohol injection. 775 wheel hp and 1500 wheel tq. I have no clue what crank figures are on that.

To be honest with you i only like the body and interior of the ford. I have not looked at mega cab yet. Ill have to see if they make it in a dually. However as long as those trucks look i know it will not fit in the garage.

RE: week later, no G.

I am also getting close to leaving the G for a Power Wagon. I'll keep the 280 but the replacement for my former lwb G might very well be that truck. From those that offer aftermarket suspensions for the Dodge, I understand that the factory settings on the PW are ideal for low speed rock crawling and the like. You missed a couple nice features too, they have steel tube rocker protection, 2" lift and 4.56 gears, perfect for fitting 35" tires.

RE: week later, no G.

Yes the power wagon is set up good. and they have the electronic sway bar disconects.

My only other opton would be trade the G on a Armada for my wife and drive the pathfinder until the 07-08 G show up used.

The main problem is getting some one to take the G in on trade. All dealers are big talkers until it comes down to the paper work. Its almost like they get sticker shock when the see a 4 year old car with 53K miles is worth $39K.
