RE: British fail to "support the troops".
I don't understand the big fluf over Iran and a nuclear weapon. I can think of a lot of reasons why Iran will never have one but I'll ofter a couple and then we can fire insults across the bow about libs and neocons. Sound good? Great!
IF and big if, if Iran were to test detonate a nuclear bomb, which they would have to do to A)make sure it works and B) show the world "yeah bitches, that's right, we got one". If/when they do this the shockwave created throughout the internation community would be of one to rid the world of Iran and it's nuclean "problem". You see, if Iran were to become a nuclear power in the middle east they instantly threaten everyone else in the region and have the potential to really fuck with the world's oil. So in responce, you would see an international intervention to take out the ruling power and seize the weapons. By rattling their sabre Iran draws attention to itself and tries to get sanctions lifted or donations. Really, Iran knowns it can not cross the nuclear threshold for it's own safty. The same arguement could be made about the North Koreans.
2)With Cowboy Bush in power thinking he owns the world, and given in 6 years he's so far knocked over 2 counties, what's to stop him for coming into Iran? Iraq and Afghanistan both boarder Iran so really the troops are all their as it is. Not Iraq could turn into an Iranian allie but I doubt that happens, at least not until the civil war is over. So until that time and as long as US troops are in Iraq Iran is rather isolated. No one wants anything to do with Iran for fear of being ties into the nukes thing from above. So again, more sabre rattling and trying to look tough in the name of getting some sanctions lifted or consessions in one form or another.
So really, it is in Iran's best interest in preserving their current government to stay away from nuclear weapons. All it takes is the push of a button and they can say hello to some tomohawk missles, white phosporus, American troops, torture, friendly fire, and all the other good things that the most expensive, well trained, American army has to offer.
