Scary... Smart Car Crash Video

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6605730767077503480&q=smart+crash

I think this video shows how safe the smart car could be as the damage to the cargo area is minimal at best.

Thanks, D.

Ouch, i wouldnt want to be in one of those in any crash...

If it jams, force it. If it breaks, it needed replacing anyway.

Amazing. A good ad for Smart.

No wonder the road kill numbers aren't skyrocketing... people drive more, they drive faster, and there are many more of them. But cars are vastly safer, and we have ERs on wheels now along with cell phones to summon them instantly (not to mention TeleAid). In the old days, you'd have to wait forever for an ambulance to come take you to the real ER.

Impressive! - but I would like to see the result with human weight crash dummies strapped in.

Flying through those open windows!!!!!!!! It also looked like the drivers legs would be crushed as well...ouch

RE: Scary... Smart Car Crash Video

a human being would have no chance at all at surviving from that crash.
Even from a crash from 35mph, a person is incredibly seriously injured in a Smart car.
The problem with this car is that the safety cage is so immensely strong and stiff, that the car itself has almost NO impact absorbing zone. The G forces that the occupants will experience are OVER 100G's in a crash at 64kph. This will leave the persons with serious head injuries if not decapitated already, internal bleedings, etc.
The car itself may be coping 'well' with the impact, but a human being can't take that much force.

Andrew2004, yes I've seen that crashtest also. It was amazing too see those cars head into each other at 90kph combined speed. The Smart only just lost it's 'front hood' and had a bent wheel, while the W220 S-class had used an impact zone of about 1 meter.
I'd rather be in the S-class...

RE: Scary... Smart Car Crash Video

I found the video on the S-class to Smart crashtest.
It's poor quality, but you get the picture i guess.

Car Accident Video Of A Crash Test Between A SMART And A Mercedes S Class

This car accident video is of a crash test between a Smart car (Smart is the actual name of it) and a Mercedes S-Class sedan. The Smart is a European car which is built like a walnut. It has a cage around the passengers in the car and is designed to "bounce" away from an accident. The video is pretty poor quality but you can see it bounce away from the collition and the passenger area of the car stays intact despite it being such a small car. I don't think something like a Geo or a small Honda would have held up as well in a crash like this. Use Google to check out some of the other features of the Smart car for yourself.

Watch the video of the crash test between the Smart car and the Mercedes S-Class.

It used to on the smart canada web site - but I cannot seem to find it now - it was an offset frontal impact with a E -

After the crash the E crumple zones were pushed in as expected - the smart front windshield had not even broken !
