RE: The more Bush speaks about Iraq...

ABC Poll. This should warm everybody's hearts, generosity is important in this season in this land of plenty.

Bush Ratings
............Approve.........Disapprove
Terrorism.....56%...............44%
Ethics........48%...............49%
Overall Job...47%...............52%
Economy.......47%...............52%
Iraq..........46%...............53%
Health Care...37%...............57%
Immigration...33%...............58%

An interesting excersize would be to weight their importance.

I'll start by repeating the same table and scoring them in order of importance. I think some are autocorellated while otehrs are independent. But who cares? I ain't no statistician.

............Approve.........Disapprove....weight
Terrorism.....56%...............44% .......80%
Ethics........48%...............49% .......30%
Overall Job...47%...............52% ........5%
Economy.......47%...............52% .......10%
Iraq..........46%...............53% .......70%
Health Care...37%...............57% ........0%
Immigration...33%...............58% .......70%

I don't think ethics is especially important public issue because it is one of percfeption. Folks who hate the administration think it is ethically challenged. Folks who like it think it is very ethical. Who knows?

I don't give a damned about over-all job. That's a function of popularity, like 'ethics.'

Economy? The president has about 10% impact on economy, on a good day. They jump in front of teh lights if things look good and hide in a closet if things look bad.

Health care? Should be a private function. First do no harm.

Immigration? If you can't secure the borders, wtf are you doing claiming to run the country?

Interesting weighting Bot! It adds up to 265%! I'm not a statistician, but isn't the weighting supposed to add up to 100%? Or do you then normalize the 265% to 100%? But if you normalize, why wouldn't you just start with a base of 100%?

Maybe if you number it 1-7, with 1 being the most important 7 being the least important they can figure it out.
But it appears a couple issues hold the same weight...
Still won't add up to 10?

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

-President Barack Obama, 1st Inaugural address

You don't think that more than one thing can have greater than 50% importance? I do. Things overlap. Think of a Venn diagram of several permutations of overlap. The overlapping regions, taken individually, may sum to greater than 100% of the region when taken as a combination.
