LOTS of misinformation out there about this. The reporter lied, and perky Catte Curick repeated it. The part about no other administration in the history of the country has ever spied on its citizens.
There was a program started by JFK, continued through Johnson, and finally ended under Nixon that activly spied on US citizens who were in opposition to the Viet nam war.
The facts seem to indicate that President Bush informed the proper members of Congress, and consulted with the Judge running the program. Seems like he did all the right things.
There is a very fine line, here. Go too far one way and you impinge on the rights of US citizens--and we all need to defend those rights. Go too far the other way and you are open to charges, after the fact, that you "failed to connect the dots"
Looks to me as if political opportunism, and agenda-based reporting has more than a little to do with how this is being reported.
