Anyone here own a Big Green Egg Grill ???
I think that I'm going to buy one tomorrow, and am looking for input from you guy's.
No, I don't own one, but I did look into it last spring when I was looking for a new outdoor grill.
From what I remember, it's like a Weber kettle but made of ceramic. The material allows for excellent heat retention and insulation that can be beneficial to both high temp searing and smoking in low heat over an extended time. The properties stated above allows very little charcoal to be used.
I did seriously consider giving it a try, however, three issues made me go with a more conventional gas grill. They were:
1. No dealers nearby
2. I live in a region with a real winter climate - ceramic is ceramic, and freeze-thaw cycle is very hostile to the material, even under the best of care.
3. The only practical area to locate it was on wood deck outside family room, and I was not comfortable with the idea of something containing hot charcoal embers sitting on my deck.
Go look for Grill/BBQ forum and ask around.
and if you do decide to go ahead with it, let me know how you find it.
