RE: Bush accepts decision to go to war based on faulty intelligence
I am reading an essay about transformational management and I find some very important parallels...
One that struck me, is the concept of "impression management". By all mean, I strongly belive that transformational management is a uch more pwerful tool in business than say transactional management as described by the essay, but because tarnsformational manamgenent leads to influence it can also lead to distortion to try ti fit in an image of some some sort. For example (Gronn, 1994) said that foster their influence (transformational managers that is) and esteem among followers... those leaders who want to bolster their charismatic and insoirational image, engage in impression management.
It goes on to say that "impression management overstates the case and fails to appreciate the difference between absolute truth-telling, emotional and intelectual appeals, advocay, gradations and shading of the facts and the big lies." Wow, how close to the mark if not a bulls eye.
What happens to trust when a leader is caught in a lie? specialy when the fantasy failed to materialize. I gues it's time for hypocrisy and incosistencies to come forth and be exposed...
There is more, but maybe I should write something... I am still trying to impress my good looking accountant. hmm I wonder how she sees me, other than being a lazy bum.....
