It's impossible to deny that the Miata is a great car,but man they are soooooo girly. They are in the same league as SLKs for goodness sake.
But then the SL is the ultimate girlyman's car, isn't it? Slushbox only, a complete pig that can't get out of its own way in corners, and more creature comforts than anyone needs.

If you want something that's less girly and still a fun, practical car, then my dream cars, the Elise and S2K would be great choices, but that's a different pricepoint, esp. when he's saying that he would only use it occasionally.

Screw getting a Benz - just get a 5-speed Miata, and have fun with it. They're plentiful, practical, cheap used, and not really a car that thieves bother with.
I second that. You can pick up a Miata cheap and they run forever I have read. Very easy to work on too. I'd go that route before getting a LeBaron!!

I must admit, when I test drove a few SL500 129s I was disappointed with the lack of feel and general lethargy.I was anticipating an experience somewhat similar to my much missed 928S4-but they were light years apart despite the similar power output.Having said that,I wasn't really expecting a sports car. So,I don't consider them girly, more appropriate for sad old gits-which I guess suits me now!
As far as 107s are concerned, well they are just old and homey-you either like them or not.The sheer classic solidity appeals to me.Nothing about the performance is going to get you dribbling.
Now then,Lotus Elise, the only dainty little car that is so completely un-girly.I just love them.I was sorely tempted (I used to have a factory Super Seven)but I have three grown up kids so I figured I cud just about squeeze them into a 129.Then my old man gave me the 126,bloody nuisance that he is!![:D][:(]

Convertibles are freaky at night. People will yell stuff at you and do really strange things. But i guess it depends on the type of convertible your driving in and how old you are.

Hehehe-A guy jumped into my car one night as I was cruising down Sta Monica Blvd.I immediately went for my underseat Maglite, but before I could grab it he offered me the big fat spliff he was holding.I dropped him off at the Ocean and we were both happy with the experience.[:D]

I am a girlyman. I guess that is what you are labeling people for owning a 2004 SL500 and a 2002 SLK320.

RE: are convertibles fun?

Convertibles have a weird effect on people, they seem to want to talk to you. Also god help you if you pull up to a nightclub at closing time and your top is down.

My general rule of thumb is if you're going downtown you put the top up after sundown.

As for a cheap convertible that will be plenty fast, a Dodge Shadow Turbo convertible will do the trick.

Freude am fahren!

Old Jeep CJ or Wrangler. That way you can drop that guy with the spliff off ON the beach instead of AT the beach.
