RE: Is there a fish doctor in the house?

a standard 55 will support MANY more than 3 clowns, theyre about 4" long fully grown.

the way ive always understood it is that 1" of fish is ok for 1 gallon of water. you should be able to keep a dozen clowns in a 55 tank.

thing is, theyre territorial if introduced one at a time, community if theyre all acclimated at the same time.

how i started my tank was i put the sand, rocks and (reverse osmosis filtered)water in and waited a couple weeks, dont worry, just the rocks, water and sand are beautiful to look at while youre waiting!! i then added a damsel fish(VERY hardy) and waited a while for all the nice little organisms to begin to grow and help filter the water naturally.

im not sure that a 55 tank needs all the extras you mentioned, a skimmer/filter, powerhead and good lighting will do you fine! dont buy into this whole 'i need the same setup a public aquarium needs" thing.

also-- try to find captive bred species of marine life. i know it limits your choices, but i had a friend that would buy these gorgeous ocean caught fish and kill them in 2 weeks. i found it very tasteless and self important. which is why i adore my krusty-- he deserves a full, happy life. even if he is 'just' a fish!

iNeon thanks very much for your advice, it makes sense. Your dead right about sourcing captive bred fish too. I'll keep you posted on what happens on the fish front!

i think the secret is to use a film camera-- digital cameras have a shutter delay that ruins a lot of the images they produce!

i'll post some failed attempts too heh heh
