i think that if you stop expecting modern society to function like the more proper one it replaced, that you might have an easier time making sense of it all.
generally, people expect too much from modern society. they expect kindness, patience and manners in a world that abandoned them long ago.
i'd say it happened about the same time that economy cars were gifted with engines as powerful as those of american muscle cars. it'd be about the same time that school busses were forgotten in favor of personal school busses. right about the time that mothers stopped cooking dinner for their families and fathers stopped bringing home all the pork products mothers could cook.
we arent living in the 50s anymore. everyone is too busy to care about anyone but themselves.
