by modern, are youall meaning modern or contemporary?

theyre two different things, i still struggle with calling something two movements behind impressionism modern.

right now i am taking northern renaissance painting in europe and impressionist/post impressionist history. its killer stuff. but damn, i surely hope i can figure out the differences between the van eycks, van der wygens and limbourgs!

all this bergundian shit looks the same but it is my absolute favorite period in all of arts history. who couldnt like the duke of berrys book of hours?! we've spent a week on it already, its an amazing manuscript!

boy...i aspire to such things.[/QU

You are thinking of the 15th century Flemish school, check out Memling,Van DerWeyden,Bosch,Van Dergoes,et,al. Wonderfully detailed evocations of everyday life and domestic furnishings, even their religious works, altarpieces, triptychs and such incorporate contemporary architecture, dress and home furnishings, and as for Hieronymus Bosch there are not words enough to adequately describe his horrid, dreamlike evocations of an alternate reality, unless you are familiar with the effects of Lysergic Acid................

my instructor calls it burgundian(for the region--burgundy)art.

i like bosch a great deal-- picked up a great old book of his work at the thrift. i LOVE cheap art books, ever priced em lately?!?

Google is your friend, use it,you will be surprised.

They are both works in progress, especially the second one (in other words, do not look too closely[;)]).
