RE: is welding hard to do?

iNeon-What is required there is about an hour's work for an experienced welder so unless you really want to invest in all the gear and a lot of time practicing, just check your local paper and get some grease monkey to come and fix it for you. Then you can get right on with the stuff you enjoy and are good at.

Having said that,if you are seriously thinking of getting an old Fintail for restoration, then the quicker you learn how to weld, the better.

RE: is welding hard to do?

i do plan to get some other benz, but i'd like a hybrid of gasoline trim and diesel engine goodness.

the diesel finnies are only taxicab trimmed sedans, arent they?

maybe just bite the bullet and buy one of those big vw-esque ponton diesels, a red one with the completly stripped interior and a manual transmission/diesel engine?

its just surface rust, those are the new pans. let them get sandblasted after i grind down the seams whenever they get welded in, itll be absolutely perfect!

the inner fenders are going to be ivory white(to match the interior) and the paint will be the original ruby red pearl.

the interior is ivory smooth vinyl with a 12" insert of khaki colored tweed on the seat surfaces. i spent 1300 bux on just soft trim....

i dont think a merc this old would cost much more than this vw has!
