If I was in charge what would I do?

1) Implement the fair tax or a flat tax plan
2) Privatize Social Security
3) Increase Spending for NASA & Space Exploration
4) Cut speding pretty much every place except in #3 & #7
5) Abolish the TSA
6) Stop wasting the FBI's time looking into porn
7) Invest in technology to cheaply extract crude from the sand & shale infused crude which is abundant in the US & Canada. At the same time invest in other alternatives like hydrogen.
8) Open up Anwar to drilling
9) Stream line the process to licenses & build new Nuke plants
10) Implement testing & standards for teachers
11) Make teachers, administrators, and school districts accountable.
12) Revise medicaid & medicare providing less care for non-citizens, more preventitive care, making institutions & Dr's more accountable, limition of treatment for obese paitents until they bring their weight down to a healty level.
13) Do my best to ensure that health care is never socialized in the country.
14) Appoint judges that will base decisions on the constition and refrain from judicial activism (whether that activism supports the views of the left or the right).
15) Change the law (or pass a constitional ammendment if necessary) to read that if you are born to two US citizens you are a citizen and not that you are a citizen just becuase you are born here.
16) Open more free trade zones.

Plenty more to add just not enough time.
GODD NEWS! Countries that meet your critieria exist! BAD NEWS! They are called 2nd world countries!

PS Could you be anymore self serving?
Examples of your 2nd world contries that meet my criteria?

Examples of how I am being self serving?

Other items:

17) Lower drinking age to 18 (at least for members of the military). If you are olf enough to die for this country you are old enough to drink.

18) Bring common sense back to the drunk driving laws: a) truly punish the repeat offenders and b) increase the limit of leaglly drunk back to .1

19) Legalize physician assisted sucide.

20) No tax payer funded fertility treatment for those on public assistance.

21) Spend more energy on solving the Iran issue.

There are others but they are probably too radical for this board.

Why try to open Anwar and invest in extracting oil from sand and shale when you could use all that money to become petrol free? Seems like a band-aid solution to the inevitable event that oil runs out. It will happen in our life time so why not be innovative?

What's so wrong about a nationalized health care program? The government provides you with an education, why can't the government take care of your well being also?
The opening of Anwar is a temporary measure allowing for technology to mature/be invented to bring the cost of processing tar oil down to a more reasonable level.

I don't believe that we will run out of oil in our life times. The claim was made in the 1970's that we would soon run out of oil. While I am not advocating we don't invest significantly in other technologies I generally refer to those who say we are about out of Oil as Chicken Littles. Just as they probably refer to me as an Ostrich. I am trying to an analysis of the proven oil reserves and efficiency in extraction. I can find plenty of information but not one that graphically breaks down the information to the level of granularity I am looking for.

Are you seriously asking these questions "What's so wrong about a nationalized health care program? The government provides you with an education, why can't the government take care of your well being also?"? Have you seen in general how poor our public education is? Take a look at Medicare & Medicaid to see why it is a bad idea to nationalize health care. There is an old adage if you really want to screw somehting up put the government in charge. This used to be known as the land of self reliance now it is the land of government reliance. Several disjointed thoughts thrown together. I have a number of friends and relatives in health care. Some of them gotten out of the medical practice due to all the paper work to the gov't. Many of those that have not vacated medicine are very unhappy as they are kept from actually treating paitents. Not to mention all the stories of how the system is abused, the cost over runs, how much the gov't pays for things (by their own rules), etc. Not to mention that unlike many places in the world there is no waiting list to get the care you need.

Have you considered the fact it will take 10 years to develop ANWR, and it will yield a total of 6 months supply of crude at today's demand? What a completely pointless endevour, not to mention a fat pork barrel to the oil companies. We could make ANWR's oil irrelevant by simply requiring greater fuel mileage on automobiles, or otherwise reducing demand.

old300D,
I am not questioning the validity of your claim of the limited resources in AWAR, but I've not heard that before. Can you document that claim? Are you talking about proven reserves? Do we really know?

( On second thought--I am questioning your claim--but in a respectful manner.)

ISOLATION

If we weren't meddling in on all the worlds problems, would we have had the Beirut bombings, 9/11, etc...Every terror group cites our involvement with a certain middle eastern country as reason for their actions. They are big boys now, let them fight their own wars.

1)Cut aid to all foreign countries.
2)Bring back all troops and protect our own borders
3)Become self sufficient again. Biodiesel, ethanol and good old American manufacturing.

Where has free trade gotten us? Wal*Mart and goods from China. We are quickly becoming a nation of service workers.

I started my educational journey in a public school. That journey has continued through the public school system all the way to a public univeristy, the University of Georgia. I feel I have a very good graps on where the public school system in this country stands. As with anything, school especially is what you make of it. If you dick around and are not motivated you learn nothing. The trick is to get children motivated to learn and make it interesting. That involved getting a teaching staff if there because it wants to be and enjoys teaching, not just because it was a last resort. This means pay them what they're worth. Forgive me for wanting to provide healthcare for my neighbor regardless of his financial condition.

Last time I needed stiched in France I found the system worked just fine. Until you've actually seen it in action and/or been a part of it, I find it extreamly difficult to make an oppinion on the matter besides you simply don't like the tax increase.

As for oil, India and China in the next 10-20 years will have an oil damand at our near the current US level. If you think we can simply keep going without worring it will run out then there isn't anything I can do for you. Drilling here or drilling there are just band-aids to the problem. A temperary fix to an inevitable occurance.
