RE: The lie we went to war on.
What the Democrats assumed was that George would obey International Law and comply with the UN Charter, a document we practically wrote ourselves. The idea was to give George a big stick at the UN so he could exert more pressure on Saddam to allow greater inspections. That is exactly what Iraq did, practically licking his balls to comply. Because Iraq was such a doormat, the rest of the Security Council refused to authorize an invasion of what was essentially a country that simpy was not a threat to us. It is a violation of every principle of International Law for a powerful nation to invade a weaker one without direct provacation or threat.
In the one move that shattered any pretense of decency these lying, murderering motherfuckers ever had, Bush ignored the UN and committed a Hitler-style invasion of Iraq. The people of Iraq thought the same thing the Democrats did - that the President of the US would never authorize a premediated unilateral sneak attack on a nation that was not at war with us and did not threaten us in any way. He murdered those people in their beds. He is the worst kind of sickening mass murderer. How the people of this country can wake up every day to this fucking killer being president without screaming is amazing.
Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.
