Speaking of actors and politics...

Did anyone catch that hilarious "ad" on SNL a couple of weeks ago? It featured John McCain singing excerpts from Barbra Steisand hits as they "promoted" his CD of her songs. (I was surprised he really did it, the guy is pretty centered. He also seems to have some ethics and integrity, no wonder neither of the major political parties wants to back him for pres.)

At one point McCain stops and mugs to the camera, stating, "You know, folks, I've been a politician for 20 years. Since Barbra thinks she can do my job, I guess I can do hers."

I did see that and agree it was really well done - it was funny and had an edge that was appropriately aimed to slice off some of the unearned weight the opinions of celebrities on social and political issues carry with the public. It also did something to positively portray McCain as having a sense of humor and the ability to carry off a skit like that on national TV. Jim

Yeah, I'm always surprised at how so many people are quick to believe that because someone can sing, or act, or play music, or....that their views and opinions somehow carry more weight than that of any other person.

And the inverse surprises me as well...that so many successful songwriters, screenwriters, actors, directors, etc., etc., come to believe that they really know best for everyone else. As a general rule most of them are so insulated from ordinary people they're clueless. Well, all except eminem, of course; he's clearly got his finger on the pulse of the downtrodden. [;)]

That was part of the SNL that McCain hosted a year or two ago. It was absolutely one of the funniest SNLs ever.

Appearance of ethicality in politicians is inversely proportional to the number of people who voted him/her into office and the product of the length of time in that office.
