When I was in highschool, our Geography master always droned on that once oil hit a certain price,it would reach a ceiling by way of the huge reserves of Canadian Tarsands that would see the world through until alternative (Hydrogen presumably) fuels were sufficiently developed.I always suspected he talked out of his jacksie.
No, he isn't - its the truth and all the refiners here know it. That price point is currently estimated at around $120 a barrel. Canada will be the Saudi Arabia of the late 21st Century, which is why we should invade them now, before they begin developing weapons of mass destruction, not to mention the fact we need us to bring them to democracy. I've also heard they are ruled by a ruthless dictator, who gives sanctuary to terrorists, not to mention the secret terrorist camps in the Yukon, and the fact they have used clubs on baby seals and nerve gas on Eskimos.
What has to happen is the ceasation of using oil for fuel. At a $120 a barrel and up, it will make less and less sense to burn the stuff - we will use it mostly for lubricants and by-products. Some other motor fuel has to come to into play - most likely electric cars, slow, boring, electric cars.
Here is my vision on how to exploit these precious resources, while protecting the Canadian people from their vicious rulers:
Note here how we will give the Canadians defensible borders, from which they will no longer threaten their neighbors or export international terrorism:
Of course, we will have to face their formidable Republican Guard. We must support our glorious troops!
