Bush decides he wants a nutcase instead of a crony on the Supreme Court

Alito, the pick of the extremist wing of the GOP:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9875670/

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

-President Barack Obama, 1st Inaugural address

KV says he is a nut. I must consider the source.

Lets see, he has been approved to the Philadelphia district federal court by a unamimous vote of the US Senate100 to 0 vote. But that was before the leftists politicized everything. In those days, even a fringe candidate could be approved as long as she was qualified. Now, the dems, who can't win at the ballot box, demand that they ( the losers) get to pick the nominee. Read your US Constitution--the President gets to pick and the Senate participates by advice and consent.
I really do not care what the lunatic. left fringe of the democrat party wants. This guy is closer to mainstream America than Schummer or Ted Kennedy.

What does "consent" mean again?

Exactly. That is why it is called a system of checks and balances.

Consent, yes!
But not a veto on any candidate you don't like. The question is, Are the QUALIFIED"; not "Do I approve of his/her politics"
Remember, the republicans voted for Ruth Bader-Ginsberg, inspite of their political opposition, becasue they saw that her resume made her qualified. The dems should be as fair-minded as the repubs--or are you not capable of fairness?
How can a person get unanimous approval and then be called a "nut"? If he were trutly a "nut", wouldn't those bastions of morality like Schumer and Kennedy have voted "no" or at least abstained on the earlier votes?

Why would they -- they approved Michael Brown's appointment to FEMA, didn't they?

I have to agree with that, despite how I view his rulings. If the Dems wanted "their" guy, they should have run a better campaign with a better candidate (at least this time - Gore still won [xx(] ).

Besides, this guy will be a good lightning rod to show how wacky and extreme the most vocal aspect of the Republican Party has gotten. Hell, it seems to be the only way that the Dems will have a shot at anything again.

2002 Ccoupe, not as good as others, apparently
